Lt Gen Waker-uz-Zaman new army chief
Lieutenant General Walker-uz-Zaman has been appointed as the new chief of the Bangladesh Army.
The appointment will be effective from June 23. On that day, he will be promoted to the rank of General and appointed as Army Chief for the next three years, says an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release sent to media on Tuesday (June 11).
According to the release, in his illustrious military career of 39 years, he served as General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 9th Infantry Division and Area Commander of Savar Area, Military Secretary at Army Headquarters and Chief of General Staff of Bangladesh Army in addition to various important posts.
In addition, he served as Principal Staff Officer to the Prime Minister in the Armed Forces Division of the Prime Minister's Office.
Lieutenant General Waker is an alumnus of the Defence Services Command and Staff College, Mirpur, and Joint Services Command and Staff College, UK. He holds a master’s degree in defence studies from the National University of Bangladesh and a master of arts in defence studies from King’s College, University of London.
