Man burnt in Gazipur gas cylinder blast dies
Solomon Mollah (45), one of the 36 injured who were critically burnt from a gas cylinder explosion at Kaliakoir in Gazipur on Wednesday night, succumbed to his injury on Friday (March 15) morning.
He was undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in the capital.
Solomon's body was burnt 95 percent. He was admitted to the ICU on Thursday night after his condition deteriorated. In the morning, doctors at the Burn Institute declared him dead. This is the first death in this explosion.
Earlier on Wednesday, 36 people were critically burnt from the gas cylinder explosion in front of Shafiqul Islam Khan's house in Telirchala area of Kaliakoir in Gazipur.
Of them, 32 have been admitted to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute. All of them are in critical condition, said Health Minister Dr Samantha Lal Sen on Thursday.
Akash Khan, a witness of the explosion, said, “On Wednesday afternoon, a person named Shafiq from Telirchala area brought a gas cylinder to his house for cooking. But when it was connected to the stove, gas started leaking out. Shafiq then left the gas cylinder on the road. At that time, all the women, men and children of the area gathered to see the cylinder. Many people watched standing in front of the gate of their house. After a while the cylinder caught fire and exploded, burning everyone critically.”
