Mangal Shobhayatra will start at 9.15am
Mangal Shobhayatra, a colourful procession welcoming the first day of the first Bengali month of Baishakh, is a traditional event to celebrate the Bengali New Year.
The procession will start tomorrow (April 14) at 9:15am from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University, said the Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Dr ASM Maqsud Kamal while addressing a press conference organised by the Fine Arts Faculty today (April 13).
The vice-chancellor said, “We are going to celebrate Bengali New Year tomorrow. Hopefully, this year will be better than last year. This year's theme is ‘Rushing towards the Light Overcoming the Darkness’. Like every year, this year also the Faculty of Fine Arts has taken necessary preparations to celebrate the day.”
He said, “The Mangal Shobhayatra will start from Charukala, and end up at TSC after parading the streets surrounding the DU campus via Dhaka Club and Shishu Park. Apart from this, the cultural program will continue till 5:00pm.”
The VC also said, “On the occasion of Pahela Baishakh, the security system has been strengthened on the DU campus. There will be adequate number of CCTV cameras and archways. No vuvuzela flute can be played or sold in Dhaka University campus. Besides, police administration and proctorial team will be ready to prevent eve teasing. No commercial campaign can be done in this procession. In order to maintain law and order, the gate of Suhrawardy Udyan adjacent to Raju Sculpture will be kept closed. Adequate water and mobile toilet facilities have been kept for the incoming visitors.”
