Many countries want to trade with Bangladesh: EU Ambassador
European Union (EU) Ambassador and Head of Delegation to Bangladesh Charles Whiteley has said that many countries are interested to trade with Bangladesh.
“Many countries want to do business with Bangladesh because of its business-friendly position. It's plain and simple,” he said while addressing the DCAB Talk, the flagship event of Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Bangladesh (DCAB), at the National Press Club on Monday (June 10).
The ambassador said the European Investment Bank wants to increase its business in Bangladesh as the country's debt to GDP ratio is relatively good.
Presided over by DCAB President Nurul Islam Hasib the programme was conducted by General Secretary Ashikur Rahman Apu.
Observing that trade is the cornerstone of Bangladesh-EU relations and that foundation is growing, Whiteley said, “Bangladesh has made very strong progress in anticipation of achieving the GSP Plus facility.”
He said Bangladesh has a vision for its own future and it has been expressed through the implementation of many initiatives.
The EU ambassador said, “We don't just talk about countries like Bangladesh, instead we work in true partnership with them, recognizing their status as an emerging power.”
