Matiur, his first wife, son banned from leaving country

A Dhaka court has imposed an overseas travel ban on much talked-about government officer Matiur Rahman, his first wife Laila Kaniz Laki and their son Tawfiqur Rahman Arnab.

Senior Special Judge of Dhaka Mohammad Ash-Shams Jaglul Hossain passed the order on Monday (June 24) following a hearing on an application filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), said Additional Public Prosecutor of District and Sessions Judge Court of Dhaka Tapas Kumar Pal.

Matiur Rahman was the president of the National Board of Revenue's Customs, Excise and VAT Appellate Tribunal.

On Sunday, he was removed from the position and attached to the Internal Resources Division under the Ministry of Finance amid controversy over his wealth.

Besides, Matiur was also removed from the post of director of state-owned Sonali Bank.

On Sunday (June 23), the ACC formed a three-member team to begin investigating allegations of corruption and illegal acquisition of wealth by Matiur Rahman.
Recently, Motiur came under fire for his son Mushfiqur Rahman Ifat's ‘goat purchase’ issue. The issue of Ifat's purchase of a goat for Tk 15 lakh went viral on social media. It soon became the talk of the country.
