Goat controversy
Matiur removed from duty
Government official Matiur Rahman, who became a topic of controversy over buying Kurbani goat, has been removed from his duty at National Board of Revenue (NBR). He has been attached to the Internal Resources Department of the Ministry of Finance.
This information was given in a notification issued by the Department of Internal Resources on Sunday (June 23).
Mokima Begum, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry, said in the notification that Matiur Rahman, president of the National Board of Revenue’s Customs, Excise, and VAT Appellate Tribunal, has been attached to the Internal Resources Department of the Ministry of Finance.
The notification also mentioned that this order will be effective immediately in public interest.
Recently, Matiur Rahman's son Ifat sparked controversy when he bought a goat priced at an astonishing Tk15 lakh, intended for sacrifice at an agro farm in Dhaka.
When the issue made a buzz on social media, Matiur denied any relationship with Ifat saying: "Ifat, the person being talked about, is neither my son nor even a relative or acquaintance. My only son's name is Toufiqur Rahman. I will formally protest these rumours."
Nizam Uddin Hazari, Member of Parliament of Feni-2 Constituency, recently said that Ifat is the son of his cousin and Matiur Rahman is his father.
