Maximum speed limit for vehicles on roads fixed
Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has issued a notification fixing the maximum speed limit for motor vehicles on the country’s roads and highways.
According to the notification signed by BRTA Chairman (Grade-1) Nur Mohammad Majumdar, the maximum speed limit for goods-carrying vehicles on expressways and national highways ('A' category) will be 50 kilometre per hour.
In case of motorcycles, the maximum speed limit on the expressways will be 60km and on national highways 50km.
Commenting on the issue, Nur Mohammad Majumdar said, "Bangladesh Road Transport Authority "Motor Vehicle Speed Limit Guidelines, 2024" has been issued by the BRTA authorities for the citizens to determine, control and manage the maximum speed limit of motor vehicles on roads and highways. This directive will be effective immediately.”
According to the notification, the maximum speed limit for light passenger vehicles such as private cars and microbuses on expressways and national highways will be 80km per hour. The maximum speed limit for heavy passenger vehicles including buses and minibuses on these two types of roads will be 80km.
Articulated motor vehicles with trailers shall have a maximum speed limit of 50km.
According to the notification, no three-wheelers can ply on expressways and national highways ('A' category).
The BRTA under the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry issued the 'Motor Vehicle Speed Limit Guidelines, 2024' last Sunday.
BRTA Road Safety Department Director Sheikh Mohammad Mahbub-e-Rabbani said that this policy will be effective from Wednesday.
