Mild to moderate heat wave grips nation, expected to persist for days

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecasted that a mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over different parts of the country.


In a bulletin issued on Friday (May 9) for the next 120 hours from 9.00am, the BMD said, "Mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over Dhaka, Rajshahi and Khulna divisions and the districts of Rangpur, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Rajarhat, Mymensingh, Moulvibazar, Rangamati, Chandpur, Feni, Noakhali, Chattogram, Bandarban, Barishal and Patuakhali and it may continue."

Additionally, the weather may remain mainly dry with a temporary partly cloudy sky and day temperature may rise by 1-2 degrees Celcius and night temperature may rise slightly over the country, it said.

The Met Office also forecasts rain from Sunday (May 11) in parts of the country, with thunderstorms and gusty winds likely in Mymensingh, Sylhet, and some other divisions. Similar conditions may continue over the next few days, though night temperatures are expected to remain mostly unchanged.

The highest temperature recorded on Thursday was 39.7 degrees Celsius at Chuadanga in Khulna division. The lowest temperature recorded Friday was 22.5 degrees Celsius at Dimla in Rangpur division.
