Miraz vows to ‘fight’ against India
Bangladesh has clean-swept Pakistan on their home ground, but there's no time to rest. After defeating Pakistan, another Asian giant, India, is waiting for the Tigers. Rohit Sharma's team is much stronger than Pakistan's. Bangladesh now has to travel to India to face this powerful team. That's why Najmul Hossain Shanto's team has started to practice right after their tour of Pakistan.
The Bangladesh team will play two Test matches and three T20I matches in the upcoming India series. The Tigers will leave for India on September 15. The first Test will begin on September 19 in Chennai, and the second Test will start on September 27 in Kanpur. The T20 series will follow the Test matches. Preparations for the T20 team started in Mirpur a few days ago. From Sunday (September 8), the Test squad members also began practicing individually, and official training started on Monday. For now, local coaches are overseeing the practice sessions.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz spoke to the journalists after training on Monday in Mirpur. The all-rounder, who was named the man of the series against Pakistan, said, "When we play well, everyone's expectations go up. It's important for us to perform well. If we do that, we can meet our own expectations too."
Miraz spoke about the challenge of playing in India's conditions, saying, "There will definitely be challenges. We have played Tests in India before, but our performance wasn't good. This time, we have expectations. If we can compete with them, we have a chance to do well. We will try our best to fight against them."
Even though Shakib Al Hasan is not in the country, he is getting ready for the Tests against India. He is playing county cricket. Today (Monday), he is playing for Surrey in a four-day match against Somerset in the County Championship. The match started in Taunton at 4 pm Bangladesh time.
Meanwhile, the BCCI has announced a strong squad for the first Test (Chennai Test) against Bangladesh. The 16-member team, led by Rohit Sharma, includes stars like Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Lokesh Rahul, Sarfraz Khan, Rishabh Pant, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammad Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah. This squad shows that they are not taking Bangladesh lightly.
About India's squad, Miraz said, "I saw that India announced their team yesterday. Every series is challenging. We did well in Pakistan recently, and there's not much time between tours. If we continue performing well and everyone stays in form, we can expect a good result."
