Miscreants attack Rampal Power Plant, 5 security personnel hurt

Five security personnel, including two Ansar members, have sustained injuries after miscreants attacked the Rampal Coal-Fired Thermal Power Plant. The incident took place in No 5 yard near No 3 tower on the plant’s premises around 11:30pm on Wednesday.

Deputy general manager of the plant, Anwarul Azim, said that some 50-60 armed individuals attempted to enter the residential areas of the power plant on Wednesday night.

The guards were injured while trying to resist the attackers. Of the injured, two were urgently transported to Khulna Medical College and Hospital, while the others received treatment at the Rampal Upazila Health Complex.

Somen Das, the officer-in-charge of Rampal Police Station, said that police were investigating the incident trying to arrest the attackers.
Additional police forces had been deployed to secure the power plant and its surrounding areas and to prevent further incidents like this and to ensure the safety of the plant’s personnel and infrastructure, he added.

The incident took place within 48 hours of a series of bank robberies in Ruma and Thanchi upazilas in Bandarban.
