Modi sworn in as Indian PM for third consecutive term
Narendra Modi took oath as the Prime Minister of India for the third time on Sunday (June 9) evening.
India’s President Droupadi Murmu according to tradition conducted Modi’s oath taking.
The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Rashtrapati Bhaban premises. Modi is the first since Congress leader Jawaharlal Nehru to complete two full terms as prime minister and take up the post for a third term.
Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah took oath after Modi. Besides, other members of the cabinet also took oath one by one.
Modi's new coalition government will have 72 ministers. They all took oath with Modi. Among them, there are 30 Cabinet Ministers, five Ministers of State with independent responsibility and 36 Ministers of State.
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina along with state leaders of Sri Lanka, Maldives, and Bhutan were present as special guests at the oath taking ceremony.
