Mohammad Mokhber set to become Iran's interim president
Mohammad Mokhber, 68, Iran's first vice president, based on the country's constitution, is expected to become interim president following the death of Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash.
Mokhber has been appointed as interim President, with the approval of Supreme Leader Imam Khamenei. Mokhber will assume this position within the next two months.
A council consisting of the first vice president, the speaker of parliament and the head of the judiciary must arrange an election for a new president within a maximum period of 50 days.
Earlier on Monday, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his foreign minister died when their helicopter crashed as it was crossing mountain terrain in heavy fog.
