At least 50 leaders and activists, including the chief organiser and joint member secretary, have resigned from the newly announced committee of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement in Dhamrai.

They resigned and declared the committee undesirable arguing that Awami League and Chhatra League leaders and activists have been rehabilitated in the committee. The resigned members also brought out a protest procession.

They made this announcement from a rally after the protest march at the Dhamrai Upazila Parishad premises on Friday (February 21) afternoon.

At the rally, the resigned members said on February 19, the Anti-discrimination Student Movement formed the Dhamrai Upazila Committee. The convener of that committee, Ujjwal Hossain, himself was involved with the Chhatra League. His entire family is involved with the Awami League. In addition, many controversial people have been included in this committee.

Therefore, they demanded that this committee be immediately abolished and reformed. Otherwise, they warned that strong protests would be organised.

An activist named Zubayd Alam Piyas claimed, "The Dhamrai Committee was formed with Awami supporters. We have informed central leader Meherab Sifat with evidence. Still, no action has been taken."

Resigned leader Nusrat Jahan Anika said, "All those gathered here were involved in the July movement. However, the announced committee has shown that the process of rehabilitating Awami League and its cohorts is underway."

Earlier, the leaders and activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement condemned the committee on Facebook.

Attempts to contact the controversial members of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement committee on their mobile phones failed to yield any results.
