At least four people, including a mother and daughter, were reported injured in an explosion at a house in Bogura.
The incident took place at the house of Rezaul Islam in Malatinagar Dakshin Para of the city around 9:15m on Sunday (28 April). All individuals injured in the incident have been admitted to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for medical treatment.
The injured have been identified as Rebeka Islam (40) and her daughter Sumaiya Akhtar (15), Tasnim Bushra (16), and Jim (16). According to ATSI Md. Lalon Hossain of Bogra Lihimpur (Medical) Police Outpost, Tasnim Bushra's condition is critical.
Ashraf Uddin, inspector in-charge of Banani Police Outpost in Bogura, said, "The cause of the explosion could not be known immediately. We have notified the bomb squad team in Dhaka. The exact cause of the blast will be determined following their inspection of the site."
Meanwhile, in the Maltinagar area, there are allegations that numerous individuals, including Rezaul, have been involved in the unlawful production of crackers within their homes for a long time. Despite being aware of these allegations, law enforcement officials did not take any action.
Local councilor Md Sipar Al Bakhtiar said, "Firecrackers are being unlawfully manufactured at Rezaul Karim's residence, with teenagers from neighboring houses involved in the process. The initial belief is that the explosion occurred during the production of these firecrackers."
"Not only in Rezaul's house, but also in many other neighboring houses, crackers are manufactured, and their activities are widely known by everyone in the area," he added.
