Mozammel Haque's house attacked in Gazipur, 15 injured in beating by locals
A group of agitated students and a mob attacked the house of former Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque in Gazipur.
At that time, a mosque's microphone announced that the minister's house had been robbed and urged people to come forward. Hearing the announcement, locals surrounded the house and beat some of the attackers up, leaving at least 15 people. The injured have been taken to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hispital while eight of them were sent to Dhaka in serious condition.
Police said that a group of agitating students and a mob attacked Mozammel Haque's house in Dakshinkhana, Dhirashram, Gazipur city. They entered the house and vandalized it. At that time, an announcement was made on the microphone of the nearby mosque that robbers had arrived. When the news spread, the people of the area came to resist. Then the attackers clashed with them.
Upon receiving the information, army members arrived there and controlled the situation.
Arifur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station of Gazipur Metropolitan Police, said: "Initially, it has been learned that an attack was carried out on the former minister's house by students. At that time, local people detained and beat up the attackers."
In protest of this attack, leaders and activists of the anti-discrimination student movement held a protest march in front of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital at 1:45am on Friday.
From this protest rally, the 'March to Gazipur' programme has been announced for Saturday.
