Murder case filed against 7 journalists

One after another case is being filed across the country over the killing of protestors in police firing during the quota reform movement against those who instigated police.

This time, a murder case has been filed against seven journalists in connection with the murder of student Nayeem Howladar (17) at Jatrabari in the capital who died on Thursday (August 22) while undergoing treatment.

Nayeem’s father Kamrul Islam filed the murder case as the plaintiff against several ministers and MPs, leaders of Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League, and police and RAB officials along with seven journalists.

These journalists are Ekattar TV Managing Director Mozammel Babu, Ekttar TV's former news chief Syed Ishtiaq Reza, Somoy TV Managing Director and CEO Ahmed Zobair, ATN News' former news chief Munni Saha, former Ekatttar TV principal correspondent Farzana Rupa, former Ekattar TV head of news Shakil Ahmed and former Prime Minister's Press Secretary Nayeemul Islam Khan.

Earlier on Wednesday (August 21) morning, Shakeel Ahmed and Farzana Rupa were arrested from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. When they went to the airport to go abroad, the immigration authorities detained them and handed them over to the DB police.

The court granted a four-day remand against Shakil and Rupa each. Their remand was granted in the murder case of garment worker Fazlul Karim in Uttara Purba police station area during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Earlier, Sheikh Hasina fled the country after resigning from the post of Prime Minister on August 5 in the face of the intense mass movement of students. Since then, one after another murder cases were filed against Awami League leaders and activists, including Sheikh Hasina, over the murders during the movement. Journalists have also been accused in several cases.
