Myanmar troops, who fled to Bangladesh, to be sent back soon: FM
Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud said that the Myanmar soldiers who fled to Bangladesh will be sent back to their country soon. He said this in response to questions from journalists at the Awami League's central office on Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital on Saturday (March 30).
Early this morning, 3 members of the Myanmar Army escaped through the Ghumdhum border in Bandarban's Naikhongchhari Upazila. On being informed, the BGB disarmed them and took them into custody.
Hasan Mahmud also said, "Myanmar has already offered to take back the 179 people who are fleeing from the BJP (Border Guard Police) by sea. I hope to be able to send them back to their own country with these three very soon."
Apart from this, the Foreign Minister hopes that there will be a fair investigation into the incident of the Bangladeshi youth killed by the police in New York. The government hopes the United States authorities will take appropriate action if the investigation finds New York Police Department officers guilty of “wrongfully” killing a Bangladesh youth.
