NCP leaders assault Bogura principal, chant 'Public Beheading' slogans
Leaders and activists of the National Citizen Party (NCP) attacked Acting Principal SM Millat Hossain of Bogura Homeopathic College, after which they handed him over to the district police's Detective Branch (DB).
As of Tuesday morning (May 6), Millat Hossain is still in the custody of Bogura Sadar Police.
Earlier, around 8.00pm on Monday (May 5), Acting Principal SM Millat Hossain of Bogura Homeopathic College was attacked in his chamber in the Jalashwaritola area. Following the assault, leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP) dragged him to the Detective Branch (DB) office. A video of the incident quickly went viral on social media.
In the video, Millat can be seen being dragged towards the DB office while being beaten. The attack was led by Abdullah Al Sani, a central organizer of the NCP's labor wing.
Attempts to reach Sani for comment were unsuccessful. However, in the video, Sani can be heard telling Millat, “Six months ago, I gave you an ultimatum, and now you’re underestimating me. I don’t speak much; when I do, it’s a warning. I’ve got you now. You've been beating my brothers for 20-25 years. I won’t allow Dilip Roy's syndicate. We’re coming for you.”
During the transfer to the DB office, Millat was beaten repeatedly. The public nature of the incident created widespread panic in the Jalashwaritola area. NCP leaders could also be heard shouting slogans against the Awami League, including calls to “Behead Awami League leaders.”
The video also shows Millat asking for water, but instead of receiving a drink, Sani pours the water over Millat's head.
Millat Hossain, who resides in Nataipara, Bogura, is the president of the Bogura District branch of the Independence Homeopathic Doctors Association and the general secretary of the district branch of the Bangabandhu Parishad.
When contacted, Iqbal Bahar, the incharge of the Bogura DB police, told Views Bangladesh, “Millat's name is not linked to any case related to the July-August protests. He is currently in the custody of the Sadar Police. However, many participants in the anti-discrimination student movement claim that he took a stance against the students.”
“Although there are no previous cases against Millat, legal action will be taken against him due to the allegations raised by participants in the anti-discrimination movement,” he added.
