NGOs pledge to support govt in implementing manifesto
A round table meeting on 'Partnership of non-governmental development organizations and media in development efforts' was held in capital's Segunbagicha on Wednesday. Abdul Matin, the chairperson of Association of Development Agencies in Bangladesh (ADAB), chaired the meeting.
At the meeting, the speakers said that it is necessary to keep the media and other private sectors as partners along with non-governmental development organizations to continue the development progress of the country and for the government to implement their election manifesto.
The speakers also said that the overall development of the country, including the infrastructure, has been achieved due to the continuity of the government, this is true. However, for the sake of sustainable development, more contemporary and sustainable initiatives are needed to reduce corruption, achieve good governance, protect the environment, control drugs, and protect peace and harmony. At the same time, more work needs to be done on mass education and, the elimination of unemployment.
The speakers discussed the issues of unbridled increase in prices of goods, human rights violations, frequently changing education programs, corruption in the health sector, harassment, environmental pollution, drugs, evictions, teenage gang culture, degradation of values, loosening of family ties. To stop these things, they emphasized the prevention of rampant corruption in the nation and nation-building, the establishment of good governance as well as social movement and a strong role of mass media.
Apart from this, the organizers of the round table meeting promised comprehensive support from private development organizations so that the new government can continue development according to the election manifesto.
