No army deployment planned for upcoming upazila polls
Election Commissioner Md. Alamgir stated that despite candidates' demands for army deployment, there has been no decision or provision made to deploy the army in the upcoming upazila council elections.
He made the remarks after the meeting with the officials of various departments to make the election fair and peaceful in the Madaripur District Commissioner's conference room on Tuesday (April 30).
Election Commissioner Md. Alamgir said, "Police is enough to provide security to candidates and voters. Overall Rab, BGB, Ansar forces work in the eletions. Apart from this, intelligence agency officials also provide advance information. The police and district administration took action before any violence took place."
The Election Commissioner also said, "Strict action will be taken in case of any kind of violence before and after this Upazila Parishad election. Those who engage in acts of violence are never spared. If any official does not take action against these criminals, then the EC takes action against that official."
"Everyone is working to prevent any kind of unpleasant situation. Even if there is no decision to deploy the army in the elections, the law and order forces will take all measures to make the elections fair," the EC added.
