No Bangladeshi universities among Asia's top 300; India leads with 40, Pakistan 12
The UK-based education magazine, 'Times Higher Education,' has released its rankings for the top universities in Asia for the year 2024.
In the list released on Wednesday (May 1), no educational institution from Bangladesh made it to the top 300 universities in Asia. Times Higher Education assesses universities based on 18 criteria, which include teaching quality, research performance, knowledge dissemination, and global perspective.
Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and Jahangirnagar University are positioned between 301- 350 among Bangladesh's universities. Bangladesh Agricultural University and North South University are located between 351-400'.
Besides, BRAC University, Dhaka University (DU), and Rajshahi University are placed between 401-500, while Khulna University and Shahjalal University of Science and Technology are positioned between 501-600.
The ranking was conducted among a total of 739 universities spanning 31 countries across Asia.
In the ranking of top universities, Tsinghua University in China claims the first position, followed by Peking University in China at second place, the National University of Singapore at third, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore at fourth, and the University of Tokyo in Japan at fifth.
The top 300 list includes 40 universities from India, 12 from Pakistan, and 11 from Malaysia.
