No case filed over Sonali Bank robbery in Bandarban
No case has yet been filed over the robbery of Tk1.59 crore from the vault of the Sonali Bank branch in Ruma Upazila of Bandarban.
The incident took place around 10pm on Tuesday when a gang of armed robbers broke into the bank by cutting the grills of the windows.
Before that, they entred into a mosque during Tarabih prayer and abducted the branch manager, Nezam Uddin, and took vault keys from him.
They beat up the Ansar members on duty at the branch and snatched 14 guns belonging to Ansar members responsible for the security of the bank.
Ruma Police Station OC Md Shahjahan said at 11am on Wednesday that no case was filed in this regard.
However, the district commissioner and police super visited the spot on Wednesday morning.
According to the locals, the upazila experienced a power cut at 9pm on Tuesday and soon after that the gang, suspected to be the members of Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF), also known as Bom Party or Bawm Party, mugged several people by cordoning-off a local mosque.
Contacted, Police Super Soikat Shahin said strict action will be taken against the criminals.
