No cattle market allowed at Aftabnagar: HC
The High Court on Wednesday (May 8) stayed the leasing process to set up cattle market at Aftabnagar in the capital on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha. Consequently, lawyers stated that there would be no cattle market set up in Aftabnagar before Eid-ul-Azha this year.
The HC bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque issued the rule after hearing the writ petition filed challenging the leasing notice of setting up a makeshift cattle market in the area.
Senior Advocate Shah Manjurul Haque and Advocate SM Shamim Hossain stood for the petitioner while Deputy Attorney General Amit Das Gupta represented the state. Alamgir Hossain Dhali, a resident of Aftabnagar Zahurul Islam City, filed a writ petition challenging the legality of Aftabnagar cattle market.
On April 4th, the Chief Estate Officer of Dhaka South City Corporation issued a lease notice for establishing temporary cattle markets in the capital for Eid-ul-Azha. The notice faced a challenge in court through a writ petition. In the writ, nine individuals, including the Secretary of the Local Government Ministry, Dhaka South City Corporation, and the Chief Land Officer of Dhaka South City, were named as defendants.
