There has been no discussion or decision on naming the upcoming political party "Janashakti", which will be led by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, the National Citizens' Committee said today (21 December).

"It has come to our attention that various media and social media reported that the new political party led by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and initiated by the National Citizens' Committee is called 'Janashakti'. This has created confusion among the public," reads a statement signed by the committee's spokesperson Samantha Sharmin.

"We would like to confirm that no such name or decision was discussed between us. All concerned are urged not to be confused," adds the statement.

Speaking to the media, the committee's member secretary Akhtar Hossain said, "We have not decided that the name of the political party will be Janshakti. Please suggest what the name could be.

"We want to reach a decision only after discussions."

Earlier on 16 December, Nasiruddin Patwary, convener of the National Citizens' Committee, said the students and the people will announce a political party in a month or two.

"The Anti-discrimination Student Movement and National Citizens' Committee will present a political party within the next one or two months," he told media after paying tribute at the National Memorial in Savar on the occasion of Victory Day.
