No extrajudicial detainees in country's prisons: Home Minister
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal stated that there are no extrajudicial detainees in the country's prisons.
The Home Minister provided this information on Wednesday in response to a question of Independent Member of Parliament Mohammad Hushamuddin Chowdhury during a question-and-answer session at the parliament.
In response to a question from reserved seat MP Farida Yasmin, Asaduzzaman Khan said that a total of 363 foreign nationals are currently detained in the country's prisons, with the majority being Indian citizens.
According to the minister, citizens from 16 countries are detained in Bangladesh. The largest group is from India, with 212 Indian citizens in Bangladeshi prisons. Among these, 11 are convicts, 53 are detainees, and 148 have been released.
Additionally, 114 Myanmar citizens are detained in Bangladeshi prisons, including 58 convicts, 50 detainees, and 6 released.
Other countries with detained citizens include 7 from Pakistan, 6 each from Nigeria and Malaysia, 4 each from China and Belarus, 2 each from Cameroon and Peru, and 1 each from America, Botswana, Georgia, Tanzania, Malawi, and Angola.
