No intention to jail political leaders or workers: Quader
Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, Obaidul Quader, said that they do not have any plans to imprison any political leader or worker.
"But individuals who engage in misconduct, commit offenses, or engage in wrongdoing must face imprisonment. Anyone involved in criminal activities should be charged and punished accordingly," Quader informed the reporters on Saturday.
Earlier, he placed wreath on the grave of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on his 125th birth anniversary at Dhaka University.
Quader said, "The government hasn't considered sending any political leader or activist, including those from BNP, to jail after the elections. However, we have filed cases against miscreants engaged in arson, terrorism, armed violence, and the murder of innocent people."
The AL general secretary stated that communal malevolent forces are active under the leadership of BNP. Awami League is resolute in its commitment to eradicate these communal forces.
Paying a sincere tribute to Kazi Nazrul, Quader conveyed, "The poet's fervent writings boldly advocate for the rights of the oppressed and impoverished, guiding them to challenge injustice through protest."
"The songs and poems of the poet have served as sources of inspiration for people in every democratic movement, including the anti-British movement, language movement, mass upsurge of 1969, and the Liberation War," he added.
