Mobile company Nokia has left the first factory where it started manufacturing handsets in Bangladesh.

The company will produce Nokia brand handsets in their factory with the new name 'Salextra Limited' in Bangladesh.

Earlier, their factory was situated at Bangabandhu Hi-Tech City in Gazipur. The factory was owned by UK-based joint venture Vibrant Software (BD) Limited, whose Bangladeshi partner was Union Group's CMPL.

This handset factory of Salextra is located in Tongi's Gazipura. This 55 thousand square feet factory has a production capacity of 3 lakh units per month in one shift. It will be more than 5 lakh if there are two shifts, which include both features and smartphones. This factory has 8 production lines.

The handset produced in this factory is coming to the market on Sunday. Initially, three models of the handset are coming.

BTRC sources said, "A 5-member team of the regulatory agency visited Selextra's factory. They got factory and testing lab proper.”

Salextra received the original certificate of 'Mobile Phone Handset Manufacturer and Vendor Enlistment Certificate' from BTRC in October 2023.

Nokia HMD Bangladesh said that they are no longer with their previous partner for manufacturing Nokia handsets in Bangladesh. They have tied up with Selextra Limited to manufacture handsets. Nokia handsets will be manufactured at Salextra's factory.
