BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that nothing can be imposed on the people in the name of a humanitarian corridor.

He said that some scholars and academicians are sitting and thinking that they can impose something that is not in the people's favor. They will never be able to do that.

Mirza Fakhrul said this at a memorial meeting organized by the Nationalist Lawyers Forum at the Supreme Court on Thursday (May 8) to mark the death anniversary of former Attorney General and President of the Nationalist Lawyers Forum AJ Mohammad Ali.

He said that the person in charge (National Security Advisor) is talking a lot. That day he said - 'We have to talk to whoever is on the other side of the border.'

'He can talk to them but he cannot talk to the people of the country. We are never an obstacle in the interest of protecting the country, independence and democracy. Rather, we will come forward. We are the ones fighting. From that place, I will say, please do not underestimate the people of Bangladesh.'

BNP Secretary General said: 'I want the success of the interim government - I have been saying it repeatedly. We are the ones who installed them. But you will not do anything that will go against the nation; it will go against the people of the country. But today you are doing something that is not clear to the people. You will provide passages, corridors. But you are not even talking to the people about these.'

Addressing the government, he said: 'You are providing corridors in Arakan, where the Arakan Army is not in the government. What corridor will you provide? If necessary, you will provide it a hundred times. But you will do it with the consent of the people. You will discuss with the political parties. There is no discussion.'

Mirza Fakhrul said that the day after yesterday it was proven again - Khaleda Zia is the most popular politician in this country and BNP is the biggest democratic party. It has been proven - only in the hands of BNP and Tarique Rahman is the independence-sovereignty and democracy of this country safe.

He said: 'Many are saying - reforms first, elections later. Reforms are an ongoing process. If reforms take 5-10 years, then won't there be any elections during this time? Will the country be run by fascist bureaucrats for 10 years? 90 percent of the working bureaucrats are allies of fascism. Remember, an interim government of indefinite duration cannot be of much use to the people.'

Mirza Fakhrul, leaving a question, said: 'You (government) are bringing many changes. You say - you will leave a footprint. What changes have they made? I saw in the newspaper that many garment factories are closing. No one is making new investments due to America's tariff policy.'
