Now is the opportunity to ensure the path of multi-party democracy: Tarique
After the fall of fascism, now is the opportunity to ensure the path of multi-party democracy through the united efforts of all patriotic political parties, organizations, individuals and the people of Bangladesh, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has commented.
He spoke in a message signed by the party's Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on the occasion of the great Independence Day on Tuesday (March 25).
Tarique Rahman wished everyone on Independence Day and said, "The independence and national day marks the beginning of a new chapter in our national life through a new sunrise. The greatest achievement of this nation after a thousand years of struggle is the independence of Bangladesh. On this day, I extend my heartfelt greetings and congratulations to everyone, including the countrymen and expatriate Bangladeshis.
Tarique Rahman said, "The first thing that comes to mind in the moments of joy on this Independence Day is the sacrifice of the countless patriotic martyrs of this country. I pay my deep respect to them on this great day." Whose unforgettable sacrifices have achieved the liberation of the motherland. I pay deep respect to the memory of all national leaders including the great independence proclaimer, martyr President Ziaur Rahman Bir Uttam.
He also said that the nation will never forget the contribution of those fearless freedom fighters whose life and death struggle we achieved victory in 9 months. I respectfully remember those mothers and sisters who made the ultimate sacrifice for the independence of the motherland. In the continuation of the struggle for freedom and independence, our map was revealed on the world map on the bloody path of the Liberation War of 1971. On this day, martyr President Ziaur Rahman, the best son of the motherland, declared the independence of Bangladesh. In his historic declaration, the disoriented nation at that moment received the mantra of courage to jump into the liberation war. The people of this country participated in the Liberation War of 1971 with the determination to build a liberal democratic Bangladesh free from exploitation, deprivation, and human equality. Unfortunately, the conspiracy of the forces destroying democracy has not stopped yet.
Time and again, fascist, authoritarian and illegal forces have not allowed us to fulfill that goal. As a result of domestic and foreign conspiracies, our democracy and economic progress have stumbled and the sovereignty of independence has been endangered. After the conspiracy of the great independence proclaimer, martyr President Ziaur Rahman, the trend of restoring democracy was initiated under the successful and fruitful leadership of Begum Khaleda Zia, but due to the enemies of democracy, it has not been possible to create a permanent and strong democratic structure.
