Over 200 shops gutted in Rupganj fire

A fire that broke out in the Gausia kitchen market in Rupganj, Narayanganj, has been brought under control around 6:30am on Sunday (March 24). The traders claim that goods worth hundreds of crores of Taka from more than 200 shops have been burnt to ashes in this fire.

The fire broke out around 3.00am on Sunday at Gauchia Kichen market in the Golakandail area of Dhaka-Sylhet highway. A total of 10 units of Kanchan, Araihazar, Demra and Purbachal stations of the fire service arrived on the spot after receiving the information about the fire. They brought the fire under control after 3 hours of effort.

According to the Locals, the fire originated from a shop in Gauchia Kichen market at night. Immediately, the flames spread to the whole market. Some goods from a few shops were transferred before catching fire, but the rest were burnt to ashes.

Fakhruddin Ahmed, deputy assistant director of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defence, said, "10 units of four stations of Kanchan, Demra, Araihajar and Purbachal are working. The fire spread all around as it was big. Our members tried to control the fire for about three hours."
