Pakistan claims to shoot down another Indian fighter jet
The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has claimed it shot down another Indian fighter jet, a Mirage 2000, in the Pampur region of Indian-administered Kashmir.
The development was reported by Pakistani media outlet The Express Tribune on Thursday night (May 15), citing confirmation from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
According to the report, the jet was downed during the night of May 6–7, taking the total number of Indian aircraft allegedly shot down by Pakistan in recent weeks to six. Previous claims included the downing of three Rafales, a MiG-29, and an SU-30 fighter jet.
Prime Minister Shehbaz made the remarks during a visit to the Kamra air base, where he met with pilots, engineers, and air force personnel. “This achievement is a testament to the professionalism, preparedness, and courage of our airmen,” he said, commending the armed forces for their “unwavering commitment” to defending Pakistan’s sovereignty.
The military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), confirmed that the premier was briefed on operational readiness and praised the PAF’s swift and effective response.
“In the face of Indian aggression, our armed forces exercised strategic restraint and delivered a calculated and precise response,” Shehbaz said. “The successful targeting of enemy assets sends a strong message that any violation of Pakistan’s airspace will be met with resolute retaliation.”
He added that the entire nation stands united behind its military. “Under the leadership of the Army Chief, our forces have demonstrated that Pakistan’s security is unbreachable.”
Indian authorities have not issued any confirmation regarding the reported downing of the Mirage 2000. When questioned, Indian officials responded only by saying that “losses in warfare are not uncommon,” fueling speculation in Pakistani media circles.
The latest development comes amid heightened tensions following a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir on April 22, which killed 26 people. The incident has reignited hostilities in the disputed region, with cross-border exchanges and diplomatic friction escalating in recent weeks.
The situation has drawn international attention, with calls for restraint and dialogue growing louder as the possibility of further escalation looms.
