Paraguay stun Argentina 2-1 in World Cup qualifiers
In an intense South American World Cup qualifier, Paraguay triumphed over Argentina with a 2-1 victory at home.
Argentina initially took the lead in the 11th minute, thanks to a goal from Lautaro Martinez. However, Paraguay quickly responded when Eduardo Sanabria scored a spectacular bicycle kick in the 19th minute, equalizing the game.
Paraguay continued its momentum in the second half as Omar Alderete’s header, set up by a free kick following a foul on Julio Enciso, secured the winning goal just two minutes after the break.
Despite the loss, Argentina remains atop the standings with 22 points, while Paraguay moves up to sixth, level with Uruguay, which plays next on Friday. The top six teams will earn automatic spots in the 2026 World Cup.
