Popular actress Pari Moni has been barred to open an outlet of Herlan in Elenga, Kalihati Upazila of Tangail. Later, the ceremony was postponed as the news has created tense situation among the locals.

The inauguration ceremony of the showroom was scheduled to be held on Saturday (January 25) at 3:30 pm, but it was called off due to opposition and pressure from local circles.

Locals said that for the past 15 days, miking was being done to announce Pori Moni's presence at the inauguration ceremony of Herlan Store at Elenga Tin Market.

However, some local religious circles, especially Hefazat-e-Islam, opposed this announcement. They planned to take a programme and stand to prevent her arrival. As a result, tension spread in Elenga.

The owner of the store, Mir Masud Rana, said that after discussions at the local mosque and receiving a call from a Hefazat-e-Islam leader, he consulted the police station.

Considering the situation, the police adviced to postpone the event for now. In this situation, it was decided to cancel the inauguration ceremony after discussing with the company. Later, it was learned that the local community had also canceled their program.

Kalihati Police Station OC Mohammad Abul Kalam Bhuiyan said: "Some religious groups were creating trouble over the inauguration ceremony. Later, the authorities postponed the ceremony."

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shahadat Hussain said that the showroom authorities came to him to seek permission. Permission was granted on the condition that it would not cause traffic jams or public inconvenience.

The ceremony was ultimately not held due to disputes among the locals over the presence of Pori Moni.
