An 8-kilometer-long traffic congestion occurred on the Nabinagar-Chandra highway on Friday evening, causing difficulties for North Bengal-bound passengers.

The congestion stretched from the Mojharmil area of Ashulia to Chandra intersection.

Intermittent traffic jams were reported on both the Nabinagar-Chandra and Dhaka-Aricha highways throughout the day, with vehicles frequently coming to a standstill. Law enforcement officials attributed the congestion to an excessive number of vehicles, despite a lower number of passengers.

Disruptions were exacerbated by reckless battery-powered auto-rickshaws moving against traffic and vehicles getting stuck at U-turns. Traffic movement was also slow in key areas along the Dhaka-Aricha highway, including Hemayetpur, Ulail, Bishmail, and Nabinagar bus stands.

Shanto Mia, a passenger of Anaf Transport, reported being stuck for two hours on the Nabinagar-Chandra highway after facing delays at multiple points along his journey.

Saugatul Alam, officer-in-charge of Savar Highway Police, said, "While traffic was slow on the Dhaka-Aricha highway since noon, the congestion on the Nabinagar-Chandra highway was caused by high vehicle pressure."
