Observing that as a result of climate change, the opportunity to use jute as an environment-friendly product has increased, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged to increase the production of jute-made goods and to find new markets for jute-made goods.

She made the urge while addressing the inaugural ceremony of six jute mills and multi-purpose jute fair organised on the occasion of National Jute Day on Thursday (March 14).

Sheikh Hasina said jute is called golden fiber. It is such a product whose demand will never end. The golden fibre has brought a golden opportunity for us. It should be used properly. Jute products need to be versatile.

She also said that those who will run the jute mills privately have to take care of the industry. Introduce new machinery and make jute products versatile. Jute will get the incentives it deserves as an agricultural and export product.

Addressing the mill owners, she said, “Even if the jute mills are leased, there will be surveillance. We have handed over a resource, take care of it. Apart from benefiting yourself financially, you will also work for the development of the country. Take care that the produced jute products are healthy and of high quality.”

Meanwhile, 11 individuals and organisations were awarded on Jute Day this year for making special contributions to the jute sector and continuing the prosperity of this sector. They received honourary crests from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

This year, awards were given to 11 individuals and organisations in 11 categories on Jute Day to encourage them to achieve the government's development goals through research activities in jute development, achieving self-sufficiency in jute seed production, and increasing the production and export of conventional and versatile jute products.
