PM visits CPH, BSMMU Hospital to see victims of mayhem

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today visited the Central Police Hospital (CPH) and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and Hospital here to see the injured persons, including cops, who came under attack during the recent countrywide destruction centering the quota reform movement.

She went to the CPH at Rajarbagh at 5pm toady, where she spent some time with the injured cops and enquired about their health condition and measures taken for ensuring their better treatment, reports BSS.

The premier assured the injured police personnel of extending every support required for their early recovery.

After seeing the condition of the severely injured cops and hearing the brutality of inhuman torture unleashed on them during the rampage, she became emotional ad she was seen trying to hold back her tears.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Home Secretary of Public Security Division Md Jahangir Alam, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, Special Branch (SB) Chief Md Monirul Islam and Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Habibur Rahman accompanied the prime minister during the visit.

CPH Director (DIG) Sheikh Md. Rezaul Hyder apprised the Prime Minister of the measures taken for ensuring better treatment of the injured cops.

Police sources said 39 cops, who came under attacks during the countrywide mayhem, are now undergoing treatment at the hospital.

As many as three policemen were killed and 1,131 others injured during the nationwide rampage.

The slain policemen are - Inspector Masud Parvez Bhuiyan, Assistant Sub Inspector Md Muktadir and Nayak Md Giasuddin.

The Prime Minister later went to the BSMMU Hospital at Shahbagh to visit the injured of the nationwide mayhem.

During her visit to the BSMMU, she enquired about the health condition of the injured persons and their treatment.

She asked the authorities concerned to take every possible measure for ensuring proper treatment of the injured.

The Premier also assured the victims of extending all sorts of assistance to ensure their proper treatment.

BSMMU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Deen Mohd. Noorul Huq and Director of the hospital Brig. Gen. Dr. Md. Rezaur Rahman apprised the prime minister of the measures taken for treatment of the injured people.

BSMMU Pro-VCs Prof Dr Saif Uddin Ahmed and Prof Dr Mohammed Atiqur Rahman, were also present.

Sheikh Helal, MP, Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain, PM's Principal Secretary M Tofazzel Hossain Miah, PM's Press Secretary Md Nayeemul Islam Khan, and PM's Personal Physician Prof Dr ABM Abdullah, accompanied the Prime Minister during the visits.

Earlier, the Prime Minister visited Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Friday and National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (NITOR), popularly known as Pongu Hospital on Saturday to see the injured victims of the recent nationwide mayhem unleashed by BNP-Jamaat-Shibir clique cashing in on the quota reform movement.
