Poet Nirmalendu Goon has been honored with the title ‘‘Poet of Bangabandhu’’
"I, like everyone else, love roses very much,
while passing through the Racecourse, a rose among all those roses,
yesterday told me, as if I speak of Sheikh Mujib in poetry.
I've come to speak his words."
The above stanza is taken from the poem "Ami Aaj Karo Rokto Chaite Ashini" by poet Nirmalendu Gun. Nirmalendu Goon has written the most poems about the greatest Bengali of the millennium, the father of the Bengali nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Not only has he achieved the title of writing the most poems, but Nirmalendu Goon also holds the honor of composing the first poem about Bangabandhu. He has written a comprehensive poetry book dedicated entirely to Bangabandhu.
In an interview, poet Nirmalendu Goon stated, "Sometimes I feel that I was born to write poetry about Bangabandhu in my life. When I saw Bangabandhu's six-point program for the first time, it felt like a blessing for the country's liberation, and that's when I started writing poetry."
Poet Nirmalendu Goon has now been adorned with another honor, adding to his accolades. The literary magazine "Lok" is awarding him the title of "Poet of Bangabandhu" along with recognition. In conjunction with the 104th birth anniversary of Bangabandhu, a poetry anthology titled "Tarunyer Spardhit Uccharon" featuring the poems of 104 young poets has recently been published. To mark the publication of the anthology, a colorful youth festival is scheduled to be held on Saturday, May 18, at 4:00 PM at the Bangladesh Shishu Academy Milonayoton.
In conjunction with the festival, poet Nirmalendu Goon, who has written the most outstanding poems about Bangabandhu, will be honored with the "Poet of Bangabandhu" title and recognition. Additionally, among the 104 young poets included in the anthology, four will be awarded the “Kobitay Bangabandhu Shammanona”.
Poets in the country are extending their congratulations to poet Nirmalendu Goon through social media upon learning about the "Poet of Bangabandhu" title and recognition. In response to a post, Nirmalendu Goon commented, "I am very pleased. You have done the right thing." On my birthday in 1978, Awami League leader Begum Sajeda Chowdhury gifted me with the complete works of Jibanananda Das. In that book, she referred to me as "Bangabandhu's Poet." Her words are still vivid in my memory. Shaptahik New York magazine called Bangabandhu the "Poet of Politics" in their May 5, 1971 issue. "Poet of Bangabandhu" has preserved that continuity in Bangabandhu's life.
