Police officer’s body found hanging in Patuakhali barracks
The hanging body of a prison guard named Shajidul Islam (42) has been recovered in Patuakhali District Jail. His body was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside Shajidul's cell by his colleagues around 8 pm on Tuesday (April 2).
According to prison sources, when Shajidul Islam was not present during the roll call at around 7:30 pm as usual, his colleagues started searching for him. At one stage, they went to the barracks and found the door of his cell closed. Suspicious, they opened the door and entered and found him hanging from the ceiling fan.
When the matter was reported to higher officials, they rushed to the spot, rescued him and took him to Patuakhali Sadar Hospital. However, the doctor there declared him dead.
Initially, they believe that he committed suicide due to mental stress after his application for Eid leave was not approved and he was subjected to abuse. However, law enforcement agencies have started an investigation to confirm the matter.
In this regard, Patuakhali District Jail Superintendent Md Mahbubul Alam said, "We are investigating the incident. We are talking to his colleagues and family to confirm the reason why he committed suicide."
Patuakhali District Police Superintendent Anwar Zahid said, "We have heard about the recovery of Shajidul Islam's hanging body. We are currently talking to his family and necessary measures will be taken after investigating the incident in detail.
Initially, it is believed that Shajidul committed suicide. However, the police superintendent said that the matter is under investigation.
