Polls in 19 upazilas suspended

Election Commission (EC) has postponed voting in 19 upazila due to the damage caused by Cyclone Remal.

Election Commission (EC) Secretary Md. Jahangir Alam told this to reporters on Monday.

The 19 upazila polls that have been postponed are - Sharankhola, Morelganj, Mongla of Bagerhat district; Koira, Paikgacha, Dumuria of Khulna district; Gournadi and Agailjhara of Barisal; Patuakhali district headquarters, Mirzaganj, Dumki; Mathbaria of Pirojpur; Lalmohan, Tajumuddin of Bhola; Rajapur, Kathalia in Jhalkathi; Bamana of Barguna, Patharghata and Baghaichari of Rangamati.

The EC Secretary said that this decision has been taken based on the information sent by the District Commissioners from the field level.

If the information of any other distressed upazila is found before the poll, they can also be closed, he said.
