Postponed election of 23 upazilas June 9
The Election Commission (EC) has announced that the elections of the 23 upazilas where polls were postponed due to Cyclone Remal will be held on June 9 next.
“Voting will be held in 20 upazilas on June 9 and in rest three upazilas on June 5,” said Election Commission (EC) Secretary Md Jahangir Alam on Wednesday (May 29) while talking to reporters.
The EC Secretary said, “We postponed the polling of 18 coastal districts and one hilly upazila due to the cyclone. Later, the election in two upazilas of Chandpur was postponed due to power problems and due to road connectivity problems; the election in Khaliazuri was postponed.”
“Polls of a total of 22 upazilas were postponed. Besides, Chandina's vote was postponed due to litigation. According to the revised election schedule, voting of Chandina upazila Parishad will be held on June 5. Apart from this, the polling of Chandpur's Kachua and Faridganj will also be held on June 5. Election of the remaining 20 upazilas will be held on June 9,” he said.
The 20 upazilas are Sharankhola, Morelganj, Mongla of Bagerhat district; Koyra, Paikgacha, Dumuria of Khulna district; Gournadi and Agailjhara of Barishal; Sadar, Mirzaganj, and Dumki of Patuakhali; Mathbaria of Pirojpur; Lalmohan and Tajumuddin of Bhola; Rajapur and Kathalia of Jhalokathi; Bamana and Patharghata of Barguna, Baghaichhari of Rangamati and Khaliyazuri of Netrakona.
