Postponed voting in 19 Upazilas underway today

Voting has commenced in the previously suspended 19 Upazila Parishads of the country. The polling began on Sunday (June 9) at 8 am and will continue uninterrupted until 4 pm.

Before this, the Election Commission (EC) completed all preparations to ensure free and peaceful polling in these upazilas. The Upazila Parishad elections will be officially concluded with voting in these 19 upazilas. Previously, the EC had conducted voting in four phases.

Earlier, officials from the Election Management Branch stated that all preparations for the 19 upazila polls, which were postponed due to Cyclone Remal, have been completed. Law enforcement personnel have taken positions at the centers, with members of the RAB, BGB, police, and other forces patrolling the polling areas.

A total of 119 candidates are contesting for the position of chairman, 132 for vice chairman, and 79 for female vice chairman. In this election, 3,046,088 voters will have the opportunity to exercise their right to vote across 1,181 centers.

Upazilas where voting: Koyra, Paikgacha, and Dumuria in Khulna; Sharankhola, Morelganj and Mongla of Bagerhat; Gournadi and Agailjhara of Barisal; Patuakhali Sadar, Mirzaganj and Dumki of Patuakhali; Mathbaria of Pirojpur; Tajumuddin and Lalmohan of Bhola; Rajapur and Kathalia of Jhalkathi; Bamana and Patharghata upazilas of Barguna and Khaliajuri of Netrakona.
