Strong winds uprooted several electric poles in Barura Upazila of Cumilla, causing widespread power outages across the region. Around midnight on Thursday (May 29), four poles near the Barura Upazila Health Complex were knocked down, disrupting electricity supply to most areas.

Md. Ahsan Ullah, Deputy General Manager of Cumilla Palli Bidyut Samiti-1, Barura zonal office, confirmed that three SPC poles fell and blocked the road, which was cleared by morning. Full restoration of power is expected by Friday afternoon.

A transformer was also damaged during the storm, and the total extent of damage is still being assessed.

According to the Rural Electrification Board, large parts of Barura remain without electricity. In Sushunda, a fallen tree caused another pole to collapse, worsening the situation.

Since 8 AM Friday, residents have struggled to charge phones and communicate due to the ongoing power outage that started at midnight.

Cumilla Deputy Commissioner Md. Amirul Kayser said efforts are underway to restore electricity as soon as possible.
