Power price hike will not affect farmers: Food minister
Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder said that the increase in electricity prices will not affect the farmers.
“Government is distributing free fertiliser and seeds among marginal farmers. Irrigation is provided to land at subsidised electricity cost. As a result, there will be no impact of power price hike on the farmers,” he said while talking to reporters after inaugurating the newly constructed building of Naogaon District Food Control office on Thursday (March 7).
Addressing the rice mill owners, the minister said. “All business should be done with one license. No business can be done under different licenses. Digital system has been introduced in purchasing paddy and rice. Food friendly digital cards are provided. The open market sale (OMS) is also being digitised. It will be inaugurated very soon.”
Observing that there is no shortage of food in the country, the food minister said, "There is no reason to worry about this. Some 350,000 metric tons of wheat have been bought seven days ago keeping in mind the issue of natural calamities.”
