Pre-primary closed, primary till 11:30am from tomorrow
Primary schools that were closed across the country due to severe heatwave will reopen tomorrow (April 28) with changes in the school management schedule.
However, pre-primary schools will remain closed for the time being, says a circular issued by the Primary and Mass Education Ministry on Saturday (April 27).
As per the new schedule, classes of one shift primary schools will run from 8:00am to 11:30am. And in two-shift schools, the first shift will run from 8:00am to 9:00am and the second shift from 9:45am to 11.30am. Moreover, the assembly will be closed in primary schools.
According to the circular, due to the ongoing heatwave, five decisions have been made considering the health risks of young children about the class activities in government primary schools, primary schools run by the Child Welfare Trust and learning centers of the Non-Formal Education Bureau.
The decisions are: class activities will continue in government primary schools from next April 28; schools operating in one shift will run from 8:00am to 11:30pm daily; in two-shift schools, the first shift will run from 8:00am to 9:30am and the second shift will run from 9:45am to 11:30am; pre-primary classes will remain closed until further notice; and the assembly will remain closed until the heatwave comes down to a tolerable level.
