Procession, rally banned on BSMMU campus
The Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) administration has issued a notification banning all rallies and processions within the university campus. The notification, signed by Proctor Professor Habibur Rahman, confirmed the matter on Saturday (March 23).
Although the notification did not provide explicit reasons for the directive, it comes in the wake of an incident on Friday, where four senior university officials were assaulted on campus. Additionally, aides of the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Sharfuddin Ahmed, were also reportedly assaulted the following day.
In response to these events, the BSMMU proctor stated that the university's situation was deteriorating due to various factors, including rallies and meetings. Furthermore, the assault of four doctors was cited as another reason prompting the issuance of the notification.
