The Public Administration Reform Commission and Judiciary Reform Commission on Wednesday submitted their reports to Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus.

Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, head of the Public Administration Reform Commission, along with its members, and Judiciary Reform Commission Chief Justice Shah Abu Naeem Mominur Rahman, handed over the commission reports to the chief adviser at the State Guest House Jamuna.

Following the formation of the government on August 8, eleven commissions were established to reform various state sectors.

Among these, the reports of the Election Commission, Anti-Corruption Commission, Police, and Constitutional Reform Commissions were submitted to the chief adviser on January 15.

During a briefing with journalists at the Secretariat on December 17, the public administration reform commission proposed that 50 percent of deputy secretary promotions be allocated to administrative cadre officers and the remaining 50 percent to officers from other cadres.

Currently, the ratio stands at 75:25. If implemented, this change would further reduce promotion opportunities for administrative cadre officers.

Following this announcement, administrative cadre officers have strongly opposed the proposal, sparking widespread debate and criticism.

Meanwhile, officials from 25 other cadres have united in protest, organising work stoppages and human chain demonstrations. They are demanding that promotions to the deputy secretary position be conducted through a uniform examination system, ensuring equal opportunities for all cadres.

There are currently 26 cadres in the country.
