The teachers of all the public universities of the country are going on an all-out strike from Monday (July 1) demanding the withdrawal of the notification of the 'Prayaty' scheme of universal pension, the inclusion of university teachers in the super grade and the introduction of individual pay scale for teachers.

As a result, all kinds of academic and administrative activities in all public universities in the country will be closed from tomorrow.

Bangladesh University Teachers Association Federation Secretary General Professor Nizamul Haque Bhuiyan announced this at a press conference at the main gate of Dhaka University's Kalabhaban on Sunday (June 30) afternoon as their demands had not been met in the last few months despite carrying out various protest programmes.

Apart from this, they observed a day-long strike on Sunday.

Bhuiyan said, "Since the issuance of the notification by the finance ministry on March 13, we have organised various protest programmes, including collection of mass signatures, forming human chain and staging sit-in programme, to press our demand. But unfortunately, no step has been taken by the government.”

He said, “We still hope the government will accept this logical demand as soon as possible so that we can go back to classes. Otherwise, an all-out strike will be enforced in all public universities of the country from July 1.”
