Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said that quota reform coordinators will be released after confirming their safety and security.“Quota reform coordinators were not arrested. If police think that they are risk free then coordinators will be released,” he told journalists at a short briefing at his ministry office in the capital on Sunday (July 28), reports BSS. When asked regarding six coordinators of the anti-quota movement Sarjis Alam, Hasnat Abdullah, Nahid Islam, Asif Mahmud, Abu Baker and Nusrat Tabassum were taken into custody by Detective Branch (DB) of police, Kamal said they told social media that they were at risk. “So they have been brought for their safety, not arrested.” The law enforcement agencies always ensure security to common people as well as quota reform coordinators, the home minister said.

কোটা সংস্কার আন্দোলনের পাঁচ সমন্বয়ককে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়নি জানিয়ে স্বরাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী আসাদুজ্জামান খান কামাল বলেন, পুলিশ তাদের ঝুঁকিমুক্ত মনে করলে ছেড়ে দেওয়া হবে। রবিবার (২৮ জুলাই) সচিবালয়ে নিজ দপ্তরে সাংবাদিকদের সঙ্গে আলাপকালে মন্ত্রী এ কথা বলেন। তাদের ছেড়ে বিষয়ে এক প্রশ্নের জবাবে স্বরাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী বলেন, “দেখুন, তারা নিজেরাই বলছিলেন তারা ঝুঁকিতে আছেন। তাদের একজন বাবাকে বলেছিলেন, ‘আমি বিশেষ প্রয়োজনে আত্মগোপন করেছি।’ তারাই নিজেরাই বলছিলেন তারা ঝুঁকিতে রয়েছেন। সেজন্য আমরা তাদের নিরাপত্তার জন্য নিয়ে এসেছি।” তিনি বলেন, “তাদের জিজ্ঞাসা করা হচ্ছিল- কোন কোন রাজনৈতিক দল কিংবা কারা তাদের প্ররোচনা দিয়েছে, পরবর্তীতে যে আন্দোলন সহিংস রূপ নিল- এগুলো আমরা তাদের জিজ্ঞাসা করছি। এগুলোর উত্তরও তারা দিচ্ছেন।” স্বরাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী বলেন, “আমরা এখনো তাদের গ্রেপ্তার করিনি। আমাদের হেফাজতে আছে। আমরা চিন্তা করছি তারা ঝুঁকিমুক্ত হলেই, ছেড়ে দিতে পারব কি না, সেটি হিসাব-নিকাশ করছি। পুলিশ যদি মনে করে তারা ঝুঁকিমুক্ত তাহলে তখনই তাদের ছেড়ে দেওয়া হবে। আমরা তাদের গ্রেপ্তার করিনি।”
