RAB detains former JaPa MP Yahya Chowdhury
Former member of parliament for Sylhet-2 and central leader of the Jatiya Party, Yahya Chowdhury, has been held by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
He was taken into custody by RAB-9 and RAB-1 on Tuesday around 12:30am from a house in the Dhaka's Uttara.
In a press release, RAB-9’s Assistant Superintendent of Police (Media), Md Mashiur Rahman Sohel, confirmed the matter. A case had been filed against the former MP at the Kotwali police station on October 2, accusing him of assaulting students and citizens during an anti-discrimination movement.
Yahya Chowdhury was elected member of parliament from Sylhet-2 in 2014 as a Jatiya Party candidate. He also served as a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Environment and Forests.
