RAJUK demolishes rooftop restaurant at Dhanmondi’s Gausia Twin Peak
Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) has raided the Gausia Twin Peak building on Saat Masjid Road in Dhanmondi in the capital.
RAJUK officials went to that building around 10:00am on Monday (March 4), said Md Ashraful Islam, the chief planner of the regulatory agency.
“Our team has gone there. An eviction drive is underway and a rooftop restaurant has been demolished," he said.
According to RAJUK sources, there are more than a dozen restaurants in the Gausia Twin Peak building, but according to RAJUK Act, there is no scope to operate restaurants there.
Moreover, the building had the approval of construction at a height of 150 feet, but its height has been illegally increased by 40 feet during the construction, said Md Hamidul Islam, director of RAJUK region-5, after visiting the building on Sunday (March 3).
He said, “The occupancy type of the 14-storey commercial building with one-storey basement is F-1. That means the building can be used as an office, not a restaurant.”
“But the second and 13th floors of the building have the offices of two private companies while all the remaining floors have shops and 15 restaurants,” he added.
After 46 people were killed in a devastating fire at Green Cozy Cottage building at Bailey Road in Dhaka on Thursday, Mustafa Khalid Palash, the architect of Gausia Twin Peak building, posted on Facebook about the irregularities of the building and urged the consumers not to go there.
In the FB post, the architect said that although he designed the Gausia Twin Peak, the building is not being used the way it was supposed to be.
